Ivy Oaks Analytics is a public health control company that specializes in reducing threats associated with ticks, mosquitoes and poison ivy at large commercial properties such as summer camps, campgrounds, parks, golf courses.
Who are the key members of your team?
In the off-season, it's mostly me, Isaiha, and my mentors
How do you differentiate yourself from competition?
First off, we are one of the few service providers who are able to reduce ticks, mosquitoes and poison ivy at large sites. We provide population analysis to strategically control the problem before going into the field where we strictly monitor reduction and progress. Unlike most pest control companies, we apply host-oriented animal control which allows us to tackle the root of the problem. Once we have cleared the area, we certify the sites we work with and provide them with the information their clients may need.
What is your target market?
Summer camps, campgrounds, park, golf courses - anywhere you pay to go outside and run risk of getting bitten by ticks or mosquitoes, or run into poison ivy.
Where can customers buy your product?
On our website: www.ivyoaksanalytics.com
What trends do you see in the market?
2017 was the worst year for new lime-disease infections ever which is transmitted by ticks. We certainly see a growing demand for large-scale control strategies to keep park-goers, golfers and kids at summer camp safe and healthy.
Why did you choose RVA to launch your company?
I am from Staunton originally and a recent VCU alum. I have a great network of people who advise me and have supported Ivy Oaks Analytics from day one. Based on all the resources I have had access to here in Richmond it would be hard to duplicate this level of success somewhere else.
What’s your background?
I worked at a camp as a camp counselor and saw the problem first-hand. I got a degree in interdisciplinary studies at VCU and the launched Ivy Oaks Analytics.
What has shaped you as an entrepreneur to date?
I was really broke the first year and I will not make that mistake again. It's a hard but important lesson to learn early-on.
Tell us about a recent win in your company you are excited about.
We signed up camps in three more states in the last two weeks!
Describe your Lighthouse experience so far. What has been your biggest take-away to date?
Redoing the cost and pricing model of everything. There were a lot of things I simply didn't know to consider before I joined Lighthouse Labs. It has helped me discover some blind spots in my business that I have since been able to address.
What is one specific need that we as a community can help you with right now?
Really, I'm looking for introductions to anyone who owns or operates a large site.
What books do you recommend for budding entrepreneurs?
Rich Dad, poor Dad, Robert Kiyosaki
